Scarves from UK designers Wallace Sewell spotlighting favorite works from the Frick's permanent collection have long been a bestseller in the Museum Shop.

This new scarf is adapted from the extraordinary colors in François Gérard's portrait of Camillo Borghese. The designer's focus was on the ornamental embroidery of Borghese's cloak, offset by the green of the floor and the rich red of the chairs.

François-Pascal-Simon Gérard (1770–1837) was a favored artist during the Napoleonic regime, producing many full-length portraits of Napoleon and members of his family. This portrait depicts Camillo Borghese, heir to one of the most important and wealthy Roman families. Born in 1775, Camillo moved to Paris in his early twenties and, in 1803, married Napoleon’s favorite sister, Pauline Bonaparte.
