When the Frick family resided at 1 East 70th Street, they were frequent customers of the chocolatier Louis Sherry. The company continues to provide the same high-quality chocolate in elegant collectible tins. Filled with luscious chocolate truffles, these gorgeous tins were exclusively made for the Frick and feature a detail from the collection’s Pot-pourri à Vaisseau, one of the greatest works created by the Sèvres Porcelain Manufactory.
The Pot-pourri à Vaisseau, a potpourri in the form of a ship, created in 1757, is one of only a few objects of its kind in the world. The colorful imagery and exotic birds are by Louis-Denis Armand l’aîné (act. 1745−88), a prominent artist who specialized in painting birds and landscapes.
