This catalogue accompanies a display at The Frick Collection that reunites two of the most celebrated paintings of the Venetian Renaissance—the Frick’s beloved Bellini panel St. Francis in the Desert and Giorgione’s Three Philosophers from Vienna’s Kunsthistorisches Museum. The two works were once owned by the same Venetian collector, Taddeo Contarini, and were displayed for many decades in his palazzo. In his incisive essay, Xavier F.
