This tote is inspired by one of the Frick’s most celebrated paintings: Ingres’s Louise, Princesse de Broglie, Later the Comtesse d’Haussonville. The sitter was for her time and social caste outspokenly independent and liberal. A granddaughter of Madame de Staël, she published a number of books, including a biography of Byron. In this portrait, Ingres appears to have surprised her in the intimacy of her boudoir, where she has just discarded her evening wrap and opera glasses.
